Appearance:
Clothing: Groomed, tailored clothing is more acceptable than sloppy, casual attire.
Nail polish: not as evident in Japan, particularly not dark colors
Perfume: not commonly worn, including shower gels, etc., nor are homes sprayed with "scents" like in the US
Shoes: considered very dirty to wear inside. Always be prepared to take off shoes before entering a home or dwelling of any kind, and even bring your own socks to put on.
